How to Achieve a Comfortable, Classy Look for Summer with the Right Shoes

Fashion this hot summer has been so much fun! I often get asked what shoes go best with what type of outfit. The possibilities tend to be endless, so I have enlisted Mary Gross from Charlotte my new favorite face representing my work as the personal shopper with SouthPark Mall and Wardrobe Consulting. Mary’s own personal style is based on effortless, comfortable dress for her busy life as a copy writer for Boone Oakely and as a freelance writer for the Charlotte Agenda. I am tickled that she is allowing me to take pictures of her shopping excursion!

Mary is holding a Vince Camuto denim jacket and wearing a maxi dress from Dillard’s. This tonal blue on blue and white abstract patterned dress is perfectly paired with a wedge espadrille sandal or summer sandal by Vince Camuto. To finish the look, opt for large hoop earrings and a cuff or cluster of colored bracelets. The addition of a large hobo bag and hat would be fun accessories to complete this summer look. (To transition this look into fall, simply add the denim jacket and a shoe boot.)

Mary looks fabulous in this orange pointe blend skirt with side slit pockets, paired with a basic button down marigold cardigan and long gold necklace with a tassel that has been doubled to frame her neckline. The large floral patterned scarf at her feet can be worn around her neck and loosely draped or tied to the handle of a tote. This Ann Taylor outfit is complemented by a neutral ankle strap sandal by Coach from Dillard’s.

This adorable black drawstring sleeveless shift from Old Navy and oversized boyfriend plaid shirt is perfect for weekend wear! I have added the choice of either a blue Aztec print espadrille flat by SAK or red or navy leather comfort wedge by Born from DSW. Notice the hat! All that’s missing in this photo is Mary’s new French Bulldog, Esther!

I love a lightweight, slightly distressed cropped jean for summer. Notice Mary’s casual vibe for knocking around town wearing a cotton, coral patterned tank and a pair of flip flops! If she is looking for a sturdier shoe, I like the option of going with a colored converse. No socks needed or opt for a Ped. This outfit is from Old Navy and the Converse are from DSW.

IMG_1655Summer is the perfect time to relax your dress and try things that may be a different style from what you normally wear. For Mary, all four outfits were great options for her, but I know she would probably be most happy in the denim shift, lightweight sweater and a pair of Converse sneakers.

Special thanks to Mary Gross (@maryfgross). If you like what you’ve seen, send me an email at Suzanne@wardrobeconsulting.biz or tweet me a picture of your own cool summer outfit on Twitter at @savvysuzanne.

Happy summer and don’t forget to cover up with high SPF sunscreen and cool shades!

Hi Suzanne! Is there an age where converse sneakers are no longer appropriate footwear? Or can we all rock this look?

    • Thanks for reaching out Lisa! Converse or any fashion sneaker can be worn regardless of your age. I recently purchased a fashion sneaker and have loved wearing them with cuffed jeans, and what I refer to as a “throw and go” dresses. I’m digging the comfort and casual look a sneaker offers. Enjoy!
