Putting “How to Dress as a Wedding Guest” to Work!

Yesterday I caught up with Charlotte Agenda senior writer Mary Gross. I was charged with the task of finding a dress for two summer weddings she’s attending. Did she read my newsletter? And how perfect was her timing? She had a short list of requests for the dress: blue, khaki, no pink or too girlie, and most importantly with a sleeve and under $200.

My challenge took me shopping at SouthPark Mall to a variety of stores: Nordstrom, Macy’s, The Limited, J Crew, and Dillard. Meeting Mary at the Ebar coffee shop at Nordstrom, we chatted briefly and then we were off.

Mary loved this little lace sleeve dress from Nordstrom but mentioned she had something similar in navy. Oh well!

We both agreed that although we liked the dress, the neckline would need to be altered to open it’s appearance to appear more festive.

We loved the neckline and the slinky feel but it didn’t accentuate her curves in a positive way.

Mary looked fabulous in the blue dress at Belk by Taylor. We decided to go up one size and have it shortened just an inch to highlight her great legs! She already owns a pair a nude peep-toe pumps that will compliment the dress perfectly.

Mary wanted gold earrings, I wanted something that had a stone. We compromised on an earring that had an off white geo as the center, from Francescas. We discussed Mary wearing her hair up in a loose bun to the side highlighting the earring and key hole closure on the back of the dress.

Mary’s ensemble would not be complete without a pop of another color, so we opted for this clutch with gold chain strap. Love this bag by Oscar Del La Renta from Dillards.

Mary will wear her own statement ring and gold cuff to complete her wedding guest style!

Mission accomplished, and Mary was just a delight to work with. Open to trying new things and happy to hear how how she could wear it different ways in the future. She loved my idea of wearing her dress, a floppy hat, and wedge summer shoe for a whole new look!
