The reality of what I look for when people submit their stories for why they deserve a New Year/New Year makeover is a person who has had a difficult struggle or life changing moment that they either overcame or persevered through. We all have challenges, whether health, family, or job related. It’s more about how it’s handled and the journey of coming through it.
Case in point (as my son Scott would say): Theresa Clementi is a young woman who during college began traveling down the slippery slope of an eating disorder. She told me that one day early on in the disease she tried to climb some stairs to class and was unable to do so. That scared her and the acknowledgement led her to telling her parents and seeking help. It took a few years of medical help, family support, and wanting to live a long and healthy life to help push her through. The Theresa that I worked with for the makeover is a beautiful, well spoken, and bright young lady with a good job and the excitement of her recent engagement and upcoming wedding. I did not find out until much later that her mother owns a bakery called Nona’s Sweets and that she would be making her wedding cake. That to me is pretty exciting!
Here is a brief snippet of our day!
After a conversation and consult we were off to Nordstrom to find a great pair of jeans and a dress she could wear to several upcoming occasions. We were able to find those items and a great white blouse at Belk. Theresa was then ready for her hair appointment at Carmen Carmen at Belk. After a brief discussion the plan was to trim several inches and add layers around her face to frame it. Thank you Travis Kingsbury for doing a beautiful job on Theresa’s hair.
After a delicious lunch from Nordstrom Café, Theresa was invigorated for the next faze of her makeover – make up at Aveda. Theresa was given a lesson on skin care and make up application from the experts at Aveda. Theresa opted for a softer eye and stronger lip color, which suited her well. She looked stunning and she was ready for photos!
As we rounded out her day of beauty, we talked about her guest appearance on my Friday Fashion segments on Fox46 Good Day Charlotte. In preparation we discussed what she had learned during our day:
- Try and buy petite size clothing whenever possible (Theresa is under 5’3”).
- Wear fitted clothes and stay away from baggy garments
- Select accessories, including jewelry and handbags, to fit your proportions
Friday’s Fashion Segment with Page Fehling was fast and fun. Theresa handled herself like a pro, sharing the excitement of her recent makeover. We highlighted her jeans and spring chic white blouse with backside cutout and elbow length tie sleeves. Theresa was a delight to be around, she was poised and truly as beautiful inside as she was outside. I was so happy to go on this journey with her. Here’s to you Theresa Clementi our New Year New You 2018 winner!
Special thanks to SouthPark Mall, Carmen Carmen@ Belk, Aveda, and Fox46 Good Day Charlotte for making this a special day for Theresa!
